SESSION 3

no one cares about your stupid cat

LIFE-WRITING FOR DAREDEVILS AND TRUTH JUNKIES

INSTRUCTOR: LYNN CROSBIE
WHEN: Tuesday, April 4, 11, 25, and May 2, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
NUMBER OF CLASSES: 4
WHERE: Room 214, Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen Street W, Toronto
COST: $390 + HST*

This class is designed to teach you how to write about your life and create a compelling persona on the flaming trash heap that is the Internet, and beyond. You will find out which YOU to import into your writing: which is a captivating storyteller, and which, drearily, is not. You will learn how to take creative risks, and you will learn when not to. You will come to the first class with 500 daring, lean words about Your Biggest Mistake; we will workshop them, and there will be a new assignment for the following week. As the classes unfold, and through informal lecturing and peer commentary, you will be inculcated in the art of constructing the self as an authentic, yet bullet-proof, entity.

LYNN CROSBIE has a PhD from the University of Toronto, where she teaches creative nonfiction. She teaches creative writing and social media at the Art Gallery of Ontario and has also taught at OCAD U. Her writing has appeared most recently in Vice, The Walrus, and Brick. She has won National Magazine Awards for her writing about fashion, hockey, and autobiographical narrative. Her new book of poems, The Corpses of the Future, will be published this April. Her website is currently inactive; she believes, like the Joker, “If you’re good at something, never do it for free.”

*Limited seats will be available at a reduced rate of $195 + HST, and in cases of greater financial need, $100 + HST. You can apply for one of these spots under the Fee field on the registration form. Reduced rate registration is not guaranteed.
