A pitch for a book is usually a blunt summary and crude sales vehicle: a disposable by-product of the real work. But pitching carries explosively liberating potential to challenge what your story is “about.” In this workshop, you will use a series of exercises to discover your story’s most powerful expression. By the end of the course, you’ll have written three documents crucial for getting your book published: the outline, the verbal pitch script, and the cover letter for submission.
ANDREW PYPER is the author of eight internationally bestselling novels. The Demonologist, a #1 bestseller in Canada, won the 2013 International Thriller Writers Award for Best Novel and is being developed as a feature film by Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers. Lost Girls (1999) won the Arthur Ellis Award, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, appeared on both the New York Times and The Times (UK) bestseller lists, and Pyper has adapted the book for television with Lin Pictures and Warner Bros. TV. He holds a BA and MA in English Literature from McGill University, and a law degree from the University of Toronto. Each year he teaches an intensive course in creative writing at Colorado College.
